CCR 039: Greed and the Singularity

GREED AND THE SINGULARITY, WHAT IS THE CONNECTION? What is the driving factor behind the push for human evolution via technology? Perhaps it is greed. Basil and Gonz discuss the topic of greed and the many effects it has on our spirituality, human psyche, society, and the external-material world. They then connect this human condition to the oncoming Singularity Movement where the goal is to live forever on our own terms; not God’s.

Actually Miller is a numerologist in that he refers to the book of Numbers a lot. Just kidding.

Flatliners was the movie that Gonz started to bring up we’d shock Basil with 300 joules then interview him. Never mind youse guys already provided the sound bite. On another note they just had a Cardiologist on AFR yesterday. He wrote a book on a code they called and pronounced the guy dead but he came back–I’ll see if I can find the link.

When I wrote sound bite I mean’t to the movie “flatliners” not poor Basil being shocked for the fun of a post “Beyond and Back” interview. Speaking of Beyond and Back, I think I found that old chestnut of a movie at topdocmovies. Pretty funny now–think they used a lot of Moog for the score.

    2. “we’d shock Basil with 300 joules then interview him” That was where i wanted to go with it…oh well lol

Not a bad show guys. Personally, I think you should have spent just as much time talking about ENVY as you did about GREED. To me, it seems that quite often the two go hand in hand. The problem with greed is that it’s always undefinable and subjective. The example that you guys gave on owning multiple houses illustrates that perfectly. Envy is a bit more objective because it’s very clear to desire something that someone else has.

Ultimately, the common bond between the two is exploitation. And the big question is, where does self-interest end and greed/envy begin? I think that answer IS exploitation, victimization and neglect. Especially from a Christian perspective.

    Take care!

    1. Thanks Phil,

I agree. It seems greed is one of several spokes making this wheel turn. Pride, Envy, Jealousy, etc. These things are all blinding and definitely a part of the fall.

Christ tells us that where our treasure is, so is our hearts. I think that the quantity of material goods a person posses is irrelevant, but where he places his treasure is the important point. You may be rich or poor, but if your treasure is heaven, there is your heart. You may be rich or be poor, but if your treasure is your worldly goods, so is your heart.

I know the point of greed was leading up to the concept of the singularity. That concept reminded me of the dying old man in the movie Prometheus. I liked that you attributed greed to the disease of debt that plagues our citizens. Everyone wants to keep up with the “Jonses” and are willing to go into debt-slavery in order to have that BMW. The net result is that people are constantly scrambling to have better toys and are literally “entertained to death” by those toys. Debt-slavery is definitely a tool used by the NWO to put our country and citizens into bondage. Proverbs 22:7 – The borrower is slave to the lender.

I’m a proponent of resistance to tryants and the NWO. I believe that one of the biggest ways the average citizen can resist to get out of debt. Debt means we are no longer slaves to the “powers that be”. Being debt free also gives us more power to help others, as we are called to do as Christians.

Gotta say, this was one of my favorite shows! You guys went into so many topic’s of what I have been noticing since I was a kid. I am 27 years old, so yes I am apart of the “last generation”. I love the subject of technology and how it affects society! Thanks for your insight into greed and this other topic! BTW Yes, you need to do a show on near death experiences. I was hoping you would make a reference to the movie flatliners!

one of the biggest modern day “prophets” of the transhumanism movement (Kurzweil)

the largest, most ambitious internet company in the world (Google)

I think the end is friggen near…

  6. yes, it was a good show! But I believe that transhumanism and the current advertised state of technology is nothing like Michio Kaku, transhuman apologist, says it is. In fact, it is mostly built on lies – especially quantum mechanics. If technology is advancing so fast, why are all those para/quadriplegics not walking? How many decades have people been researching that? All these goofy scientists are always saying ‘we are on the verge….” with everything technological. Its like those omni magazines.

There have been no advancements in medicine that can add 1 year to the average healthy person’s life. Even the current state of ‘healthy eating’ with 5 food groups, low fat, high carb is a total crock and the exact opposite of what is healthy and is contributing to fat epidemic in usa and shorter life spans. Watch the youtube vid ‘fat fiasco’ to learn more.
How is technology making food better? its not, just makes it worse.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the exact opposite of what these phony transhuman apologists happens in the not so far future- people wake up and return to something lesser but better. But that will take some sort of sea change.

Just like you guys said, we dont need phones, but the way society is structured, it makes life difficult without them. Read ‘pattern language’ by Christopher alexander, to learn all about how cities, towns, society used to function in the correct way (and still do in some places)

    1. You make a good point, but I think a point we made in the episode is important…and that’s that the advanced technologies is NOT for the masses. In other words, the reason why not more people who are para/quadriplegics aren’t walking is because they can’t afford it. A recent article that came out on the way our military is being “trained” or turned into super soldiers is more of what we are talking about. Again, advancement in technology is not for everyone. And TPTB (The Powers That Be) don’t want it for everyone. Remember they want to reduce the world population and they can’t do that if everyone had equal opportunities to live forever via advancement in technology.

The problem is, if these technologies were distributed and applied properly, we would be living in an almost utopia. But again, they’re using it to benefit themselves.

Here’s the link to the article I mentioned:

      1. “The problem is, if these technologies were distributed and applied properly, we would be living in an almost utopia”

eh… I know where you guys stand and know your hope is in the Resurrection overall, so I don’t feel like I’m being too contentious in saying that I disagree with the above statement…

When I heard Alex Jones give his feedback on the movie “Prometheus” a while back, he went on and on about this whole point… He was ranting againt “TPTB”, and how they’ve taken the “fire of prometheus”, (i.e. the advanced technologies that could supposedly make the whole world an almost utopia), but that those greedy bastards only want to horde it all for themselves…

There wasn’t exactly a lot of advanced technology in the world when Cain murdered his brother Able. Technology isn’t the problem, and so it isn’t the solution either…

        1. I agree it’s not a solution. And I don’t think basil or myself are as adamant in finger pointing TPTB regarding the issue of hording technology. I think it’s true that they are but I don’t think unleashing it to the masses is going to solve anything. New problems unforeseen will arise. I said it in a way to respond to Sim0ns comment.
I’ve out a lot of thought into this and it’s going to be a major the e in part 2 of age of deceit. Technology is really something that is supplementing the effects of the fall. Not to say God is against all technology, but I think the example of genesis is profound.

The garments to cover nakedness was the first recorded use of technology. But if you notice, Adam and Eve used fig leaves to cover the selves and then God assisted them by giving then garments made of animal skin. I think this is a microcosm, a commentary on technology. Man using it to make up for the effects of the fall, but God saying look, I am the one that is going to restore.

          1. Phill

Speaking of Age of Deceit 2, any ETA on that? Looking forward to with with anxious anticipation.

          2. I don’t know for sure, but I can tell you it will be out before the end of the year. I’m thinking around September since that would be 2 years since part 1 came out.

This is a great episode guys. I’ve often thought of greed, I agree that you can’t put it down to possessions ect.. But an unhealthy and destructive compulsion a large Scrooge 🙂

As to people saying that you are imposing your beliefs by having a Christian oriented view of social problems/government. You could retort that any form of government- even democracy is essentially backed by violent coercion. Maybe that’s a bit too anarchist, which obviously doesn’t have all the answers either.

I certainly can empathise with socialistic leanings, but the more I’ve looked into economics, the more I realise that it is a false economy. But of course capitalism has its darker aspect as well.

Anyway, really enjoyed it. You guys touched upon some stuff that I needed to hear.
